Hi Gang,
It is pointless for me to upgrade my gaming rig to 32GB (16GB ATM) as it would only serve as a temporary measure and most definitely will need further cores and RAM to continue hosting further VMs.
So looking to build a server workstation/desktop format. Primarily, it will be an ESXi host and host:
- AD environments
- Nested ESXis, vCenters and so on
- Desktop OSs (Windows, Linux and so on)
- Cisco CM, CUC and so on
- basic a small virtulization platform that a company will have to get practice on for certification and further development of skills and so on
- Eventually home NAS or whatever other small projects that will be
So definitely:
- Dual socket
- Xeon E 5-24XX (26xx overkill no?)
- Xeon X ????
- 64-GB DDR3 initially ECC
- WD Reds
- Controller ???
Budget, I can set aside £1k but really would like to be able cut down that down
- 4 Core
- Hyper V
- Turbo boost would be good but not really important right?
- Not overkill as the memory is the
I'll get a cheapo 32GB SSD to host ESXI and of course the controller will host the data store (some type of RAID 5 with the WD reds?).
Any ideas you lovely people?
THANK YOU,
Daniel
