I am noticing a trend and I'm hoping someone can help me here. I have been using VMware Workstation for years now with multiple vm's consisting of Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7. The current version I'm using for VMware Workstation is v10.0.3 and it runs on my laptop running Windows 7 with 32GB RAM. I have installed and run all of my vm's from a 3TB Fantom Drive in which connects to my laptop via USB 3.0 for the past two years. I'm now setting up new vm's to contain Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (v6.3 and v7.0) and I'm finding a trend with Red Hat consistently whereas it installs fine but when I reboot the Red Hat vm I am consistently receiving "failure to mount /sysroot". I was doing some research and said to myself "what if I create the Red Hat vm on my local drive rather than on my Fantom Drive and see if I get the same issues". So I created a new vm using Red Hat Linux Server 7 on my local drive and I've been able to reboot this vm many times and not get any mount failures within the vm. That's great but the problem is that I can't use my local computer to host all of my virtual machines because I don't have the space and this is why I have the external 3TB Fantom Drive. Furthermore, the Fantom Drive helps me take it around with me to customer sites so that I can conduct a demo of our products running on the virtual machines. I need to install, upgrade, reboot, etc. all of my vm's from my 3TB Fantom Drive. If anyone has had a similar problem whereas they are seeing failures of mounting /sysroot on their Red Hat vm's running from an external USB 3.0 hard drive, please let me know if you resolved it and if so, what configuration change(s) did you do to allow the vm's to reboot successfully over and over and not have the vm crash? Most appreciated.
